The promised promo idea:

hi hi hi,
below i've posted a list of ideas i've had for promo items. even if you don't want to make any of them, hopefully they'll help you get ideas! also, don't worry about making stuff that says your shop name, or has anything to do with your shop or what you usually sell. if it's kind of close that's great, but i wouldn't stress out about it for now. just be sure to bring business cards (or something else with your name on it) to attach to them and the customers will still like getting a small gift and will check out your shop because of it. i know i always do that!

wren:)
p.s. that's a wren bird!

small promo item ideas:
  • business card-size handmade envelopes, from recycled papers etc. (i've been doing this and putting business cards inside for customers, i just got a small envelope i liked and used it as a pattern)
  • business cards (or other fun stuff) printed onto magnet sheets
  • handmade or printed stickers, on sticker paper (logo/business info/other cute stuff)!
  • oragami boxes or other things
  • postcard size, or smaller, art prints
  • handmade paper
  • booklets etc. with etsy, or eugene etsy, street team facts
  • selection of found objects/vintage items/new, used, or leftover supplies/ephemera
  • sewn stuff (little animals, cell phone charms, pincushions)
  • paper flowers
  • mini portfolio with pictures of your work and any other info you want
  • selection of stationary/cards/envelopes
  • fold-up paper/cardboard luminary
  • selection of new &/or recyled papers with hand/computer drawn oragami folding instructions
  • selection of anything else with hand/computer drawn tutorial
  • key chains/fobs
  • pins/brooches
  • flower/plant seeds with little note about the flower/plant
  • stamped/etc. hang tags for them to use on gifts etc.
also- i've received a couple emails from one of the people organizing the upcoming spring portland etsy show. i've pasted them below so you all know what is going on- let's talk at our next meeting about participating...

[from 4/11]
It is time to get up to speed! Larissa from larrisaelaborates.etsy and I went down to the Woman's Studies Department to reserve a PSU park block for the upcoming sale. Here is what we know about the PSU site:
-Our Etsy sale will be sponsored by the Women's Studies Program. The PSU
blocks would be costing us $900 or so to rent from the city but their
sponsorship will mean that the park fee is waived allowing us to have our
sale *right next to the farmer's market* .
- The proposed dates are June 9th with the back up date being June 16th (note from wren- this second date is uo graduation).
-This site is the block just south of the farmers market.
-There is a loading zone on site and a parking garage on Harrison and
Broadway (around the corner for after we unload)
-We are slated to set up at (wait for it...) 6:30 a.m. and we can pull
down as late as 5 p.m. the farmer's market is from 8 -2 I believe
-.There is a massive information network on campus that we can use to
promote our sale because of this sponsorship.
- In return proceeds raised from table fees will go to the program "Walk
of Heroines".

What we don't know:
-Since all of this is contingent of the event coordinator approving the
event we have to wait until we hear back.
Larissa, and I did speak with him already and it seemed like a go.
-Would you please let me know if you have a pop up canopy that you will
use and if can you share?
-I would also like to know if you will be needing electricity. We may
have access to a small amount, we may not.
-I was thinking the fairest thing would be to charge ourselves by the
length of your table. If we can get you to pay $6 a foot then the fee would be more progressive.
If you want a ten footer you pay $60 if you want a 2 footer you pay $10.Please bear in mind that the money we generate will go back into advertising and whatever is left over will go to a righteous cause.
------
[from 4/12]
Some of you have emailed back concerning tents. the park block we have(fingers crossed) has a giant "X:" running through it. I had to draw a little map of what the fair would look like.
So hopeful we would lash the tents together for maximum coverage having "corner stone" tents at each right angle. Make sense? Probably not but the point is that if we share tents we can all be covered.

Out of towners! Let's get you hooked up so that you can spend the night in Portland on Friday!
Would some one be interested in coordinating this?

Donation to PSU Woman's Studies - let's do a raffle, or simple have an
information table set up where we can have both Etsy info,
maybe a laptop or two (one for etsy one for PSU) brochures, promos and
said raffle...and then a collection jar for the PSU project.
Would someone like to volunteer to keep and eye on the donation/raffle?

OMG, Wren...another great, informative post! Okay (note to self) need to start working on promo items. I think I figured out what I'm going to make as I was reading this, though. It has nothing to do with glass, but I can put my shop address on the back....weekend project.

The Portland show sounds great so far. We'll talk about it at the meeting and keep figures crossed that it is the first date.

Wren where would we be without you?!?
I just started my promo's (squeal)! Still working out if I want my shop name on them or if I just want to tie them up with my business card.

It looks the Pam was okay with meeting Thursday next week if it works for everyone else- so how does that sound to everyone else? 6:30 or 7:00 so wren has some wiggle room?

Wow! Thanks for all of this new info! I was thinking stickers for promo ideas, so I might go with that. I just applied for Crafty Wonderland, and I might go this Sunday just to see what it's all about. I think the Portland show that you wrote about here sounds incredible!! I love Etsy! Now I just have to get stuff made :)

Meeting?
Should we set it for 6:30 on Thursday?

If possible I would like to meet a little closer towards campus, I'm trying not to use my car as I can't afford gas prices and I can't seem to find my bike light so the less distance from home the better for me!
(I'm at 24th & Patterson)

i could meet closer to campus, but it would have to be a little earlier, otherwise after class i'll have to wait there awhile or go all the way home and come back. does anyone live near kiley that could pick her up? would 5:30 work okay?

Kiley said...

5:30 works for me. Wren maybe you should put up a new post to get people's attention to see what works for everyone.

Campus is a lot farther for me, since I live in the River Road area. I really wouldn't want to have to go that far....maybe a compromise in between?

hi guys!
pam and i both agree that changing the meeting place and time at this point would be problematic. we don't want to cause any confusion for new people or others who don't check the blog every day, or frustration for those who've planned around it already. the current place, day, and time seems to work the best for almost everyone- which we decided as a group earlier on. so, why don't we do the normal meeting time/day/place for tomorrow and we can talk more about changing it at that time?

So, just to confirm, our meeting is thursday the 19th at 6:30 at the world cafe, right?
I just want to make sure, I have invited some new people this time :)
I dont want them to miss it!

Courtney and Molly said...

err yes I did mean the 19th. hehe So looks like we are meeting at 6:30 same time same place?

Courtney and Molly said...

Also Kiley if you're coming to the meeting I will bring my laptop and perhaps I can show you some HTML stuff then? If you have a laptop you should bring it as well we have internet access there :D

Thanks!
I have a laptop but it has about 20 min of battery power when it's not plugged in... It's old and not a spiffy mac book!
I'll lug it along but we will need to find an outlet.

I have about 20 promo's made for the swap, does that sound like about the same number everyone else has?

I also made us a little tabletop stand so people will know who we are! It's etsy orange!

pso Design said...

Kiley...I made about 20 also. Wasn't really sure how many we'd need, and can always make more later. Was up late finishing, ugh. A sign is a great idea...thanks! See you tonight...
